St Pierre du Bois

St Pierre du Bois – which is often referred to as just St Peter’s – is home to just over 2,000 residents.  There is a strong sense of community ‘out West’ and this is where you’ll sometimes hear the older generation speaking traditional Guernsey French or ‘patois’.

St Pierre du Bois is the centre for Guernsey’s western parishes, which encompasses Torteval, St Saviour’s and Forest.  However, the parish is very rural, it’s mainly countryside with a small village, including a Morrisons supermarket, in the centre.

The coastline includes Fort Saumarez, L’Eree, Lihou and Rocquaine Bay.  In the centre of Rocquaine Bay is a Martello tower known as the Cup & Saucer.  It houses a shipwreck museum and offers spectacular views of the bay and the Hanois Lighthouse.  The highlight of the year in St Pierre du Bois is the Rocquaine Regatta, which is a fun-filled summer festival day.

“St Pierre du Bois is a beautiful rural parish in the South-West of the Island and includes lovely, sandy L’Eree bay on the West and rugged cliffs to the South. In between is beautiful green countryside with some very nice properties in pretty country lanes. We have a lovely parish church and best of all, my favourite Guernsey landmark; Fort Grey. Better known as the Cup and Saucer, which I love!”
