Swoffers’ property manager Nikki Trebert has been chosen to be the Guernsey team flag-bearer at the Gibraltar Island Games taking place next month.
Pistol shooter Nikki is a real medal hope for the Guernsey team and will be competing in 25m pistol, standard pistol and air pistol events.
She was proud and delighted to be given the honour of carrying the flag.
‘This will be my ninth Games but my first time in Gibraltar,’ said Nikki.
‘I’ve carried the flag at a closing ceremony before in Rhodes in 2007 but never before have I had the honour of carrying it for the opening ceremony.
‘Gibraltar’s most successful sport is shooting, so competition is going to be challenging and the facilities have been upgraded so it’s going to be an exciting Games.’
Nikki has won 17 medals in previous Games and broke an Island Games record in the last Games in Gotland; she is hoping to do the same this time.
‘We have a very strong shooting team and I’m hopeful we will be successful in bringing back some medals,’ she said.
The Gibraltar Games will also provide a valuable learning experience ahead of them returning to Guernsey in 2021.
‘I have been appointed as the Pistol Co-ordinator for the Guernsey Games in two years’ time, so will be looking at how they organise the event so that we can make sure our home Games runs smoothly.’
