Local sea swimmer Tim Pond is attempting to swim from Jersey to France this weekend in aid of the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation.
Tim is married to Swoffers Property Manager Nikki Trebert and their daughter Macie spent the first week of her life in the special care baby unit at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
‘We both saw first-hand how much work Jo and Andy Priaulx and the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation team do to help parents and babies, supporting them through a tough time in their life,’ says Tim.
The swim from Jersey to France is around 14 miles but with strong tides and currents it’s a huge challenge and will take Tim around 8 to 9 hours depending on weather conditions.
It’s even more of a challenge considering that Tim was seriously ill with sepsis around 18 months ago and spent 11 days in an induced coma.
‘This is a huge challenge for my fitness both physically and mentally,’ says Tim. ‘The whole swim makes me nervous, but I am determined to succeed.’
The money raised will go towards equipment at the PEH as well as helping to maintain the Foundation’s two flats in Southampton where parents can stay while their baby is in Southampton Hospital.
